Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between essential oils, oils (scent reconstructions) and fragrance oils?
Avicenna Oil Natural Beauty products may be divided into three categories:
NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS
Products obtained 100% naturally from a particular plant or its part, by means of either steam distillation or pressing (citruses).

OILS (SCENT RECONSTRUCTIONS)
An oil (scent reconstruction) is a high-quality reconstruction of the composition and fragrance profile of a natural essential oil. This reconstruction of the oil’s character is done by mixing natural and/or synthetic fragrances. Oils (scent reconstructions), in contrast to essential oils, do not show aromatherapeutic properties. Therefore, they can be safely used by people who cannot fully enjoy the advantages of essential oils.

FRAGRANCE OILS
A fragrance oil is a reconstruction of a given scent. It is a mixture of natural and/or synthetic fragrances whose goal is to produce a new scent or improve an existing one. Just like reconstructions, fragrance oils do not show aromatherapeutic properties. Therefore, they can be safely used by people who cannot fully enjoy the advantages of essential oils.

Where do our essential oils come from?
Usually in order to obtain a small amount of essential oil one needs a lot of vegetable raw materials. For instance, to produce a small bottle of lavender oil (10ml) as much as 3 kg of lavender petals have to be distilled. That is why essential oils tend to be distilled near the place where the oil-giving plant is grown.
Since essential oils are manufactured all over the world, our oils come from all corners of the globe. A net of suppliers and manufacturers that has taken us many years to establish allows us to provide you with pure oils of verified quality. We personally visit the plantations of oil-giving plants and the distilleries. Moreover, we use systematic laboratory tests to ensure the high quality of the oils.
Do Avicenna Oil essential oils contain additives, preservatives, stabilizers etc.?
In our bottling plant the natural oils are poured directly into bottles, which means that:
– they are 100% pure and natural,
– we do not dilute the oils in vegetable base oils,
– no preservatives, stabilizers, colour additives, silicones, PEGs or other chemical ingredients are added.
How come Avicenna Oil essential oils do not require preservatives?
Natural essential oils are natural preservatives. The active substances they contain show strong antimicrobial properties. They constitute an environment that is unfavourable for the development of bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms, and that is why they do not require additional preservatives.
On the INCI list of ingredients visible on the packaging of a natural essential oil, apart from the name of the oil itself, you can see other ingredients marked with an asterisk: “*oil’s natural ingredient”. What does that mean?
What you will find on the INCI list of ingredients on the packages of our natural essential oils is the name of the essential oil along with those ingredients that are naturally present in the oil itself. These mysterious ingredients are simply potential allergens, which – as a producer – we are obliged to enumerate on the package according to the Regulation of the European Parliament on cosmetic products.
Why Avicenna Oil essential oils should not be ingested?
Our essential oils are dedicated for external use only. These are 100% natural cosmetic products and not groceries. Appropriate research has been carried out in order to make the oils safe for you and to register them as cosmetic products. We do not recommend ingesting them.
Can natural essential oils cause an allergic reaction?
How sensitive one’s skin is to essential oils is purely individual. Due to the complex nature of essential oils they may cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. With proper skin care in mind we recommend doing an allergy test before applying the oil for the first time. Moreover, when using the oils on the face you should remember that the skin there is more sensitive than on other parts of the body.
How to use essential oils safely?
As we know, an essential oil constitutes the essence of the oil-giving plant it comes from. It means that what you get is a highly condensed natural plant product that has to be used sensibly and in appropriate proportions.
The key to using essential oils safely is the so-called Decalogue of Aromatherapy created on the basis of the guidelines provided by the Polish Aromatherapeutic Society. We recommend getting to know these rules before you begin your adventure with essential oils.
Use the essential oils and blends of essential oils whose scent pleases you the most.
When making your own blend, do not use more than 5 essential oils. This should be enough since each of them contains a great wealth of precious ingredients.
Do not use doses that are higher than what the instructions say, e.g. 5-10 drops in an aromatherapy burner, 10-15 drops in a bathtub, 15-30 drops in 50ml of vegetable oil for massage.
Do not ingest essential oils.
Do not use undiluted essential oils directly on skin. To use them during a massage dilute them in a so-called carrier, preferably a natural vegetable oil.
Before your first aromatherapeutic treatment do a 12-hour allergy test. Dilute a drop of the given oil or blend in a teaspoon of vegetable oil and rub it in the skin behind your ear or on your chest. If during the next 12 hours you do not experience reddened skin, itching or burning sensations, it means you can safely use this particular oil.
Do not add foam-making liquids to aromatherapeutic baths. Just submerge in a warm bath for at least 15 minutes and relax.
Remember about general contraindications. Do not use essential oils when pregnant, allergic, on kids under the age of three, or when your skin is exposed to UV light.
Use only high quality essential oils.
Use natural essential oils and believe in their healing properties while enjoying the beauty of their scents.
What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a natural medicine and cosmetic method that has been known for thousands of years. It involves the use of natural essential oils derived from plants and introduced into the body via respiratory tracts (sniffing, breathing in, inhalation) or via one’s skin (massage, bath, compress, cosmetics).*

Avicenna Oil Natural Beauty natural essential oils can be safely used during at-home aromatherapeutic treatments.
Can oils (scent reconstructions) and fragrance oils be used in aromatherapy?
We only use natural essential oils in aromatherapy. The multiple ingredients in these mixtures of biologically active chemical compounds show therapeutic properties. Although our oils (scent reconstructions) and fragrance oils smell prettily, they do not possess any aromatherapeutic properties, so we do not recommend using them in aromatherapy.
How to use natural essential oils in a sauna?
An aromatherapeutic sauna is a great way to relax, but one should not forget to use essential oils cautiously. In order to prepare yourself for aromatherapy in a sauna, you need to securely install a small bowl over the sauna’s heater. 5 to 10 drops of an essential oil or of a blend of essential oils should be poured into the bowl. A few drops of an essential oil (up to 5) can also be poured into a glass with water and then spilled in small doses onto the hot stones of the heater. The warmth of the sauna causes relatively quick vaporizing of the oils thanks to which we can enjoy their effects right after their application.
Beware! Since essential oils and their blends are flammable, one should never let the oil spill onto the sauna’s heating system itself!
